Holiday activities will run rain, hail or shine. Nothing can stop us! The arena and jumping paddock have a wonderful surface and are usable after the heaviest rain. We also have a sizeable undercover for pony care, leading, bridling etc. As we have limited spaces and your pony is booked for you, you will be charged the full rate unless your space can be filled again.
Cancellation by Pony Tales for safety reasons will result in either a full refund or a replacement lesson on another day. Each session requires a minimum of 3 riders to operate.
What to Bring
- Clothing to ride in (see attire)
- NZPC Approved Helmet (if you can)
- Boots or shoes to ride in (see boots)
- Food & Drink (exercise = hungry!)
- Any medication that may be needed
- Sunscreen and raincoat
- A change of clothes and shoes
Attire
Jodhpurs are ideal. LONG PANTS are required. Stretch leggings, tights, tracksuit pants and to a lesser extent jeans are also fine. Shorts or dresses are not suitable and you will not be allowed to ride in them.
During wet or cold weather, warm waterproof clothing should be as close fitting as possible and closable as flapping jackets are a hazard. Light thin layers and thermal underwear are preferable to thick clothing that may impede mobility.
Gloves are not essential but they do enable the rider to keep better grip on the reins and can help to prevent blisters.
Safety vests are an optional choice for riders, but are recommended especially for jumping lessons.
Jewellery should not be worn.
Helmet
NZPC approved safety helmets are compulsory for all riders when near the horses. There are limited NZPC approved helmets available, but where possible please provide your own helmet.
Boots
There are limited boots available. However, to ensure correct fitting and maximum safety please bring boots or shoes with a smooth sole and small heel. Wide toes, gumboots are NOT safe and you will not be allowed to ride in them, however, they can be used for pony care.
Spectators
Horses act unpredictably to such things as sounds, sudden movements and unfamiliar objects. As safety is our priority ask you to please watch from the spectator area. Please keep non riding children quiet, out of the arena, driveway, and away from the ponies. Children not in a lesson are your responsibility.
Photography
Often, photographs of you/your children are taken. These may be used on social media, in a publication etc. If you DO NOT want photos taken, please indicate to the organizer. These pictures are the property of PonyTales. We may edit/alter/copy the pics and use my likeness in promotional materials and I that waive any potential royalties etc.
